After losing my great-grandmother Harriet to dementia and breast cancer, I’ve made it my life’s mission to prevent this dementia from affecting other families as it did mine. We lacked resources on how to care for her, so I am now a trained Alzheimer’s Association Legislative Advocate and Community Educator. I educate communities and schools across Indiana with free dementia prevention presentations. I actively make dementia change by speaking with Indiana and Capitol Hill legislatures and support empathetic communities by dispelling dementia myths via awareness.
From Heart to Head begins with heart. By going into classrooms to give healthy lifestyle presentations and reading books like Get Your Dragon to Eat Healthy Food, From Heart to Head can help our future leaders build healthy foundations of living now. As a child, I went through food insecurity and know what it is like to be unable to afford healthy meals. Thanks to school resources providing me and my siblings with free and reduced lunch costs, I was able to eat lunch every day and further my education. Find food resources in your community above in my “Heart and Head Resources” section.
